Distillery
Walter Teeling – distillery 1782 in Dublin - (Neighbour of George Roe’s distillery). Bought out by the larger company William Jameson’s (in the same street)
1923 Teeling’s distillery ‘fell asleep’ – similar to many Irish distilleries due to financial problems
1987 – 60 years later - John Teeling (descendant) established Distillery in County Louth (approved to make alcohol from potatoes) – eventually established the Cooley Distillery
John’s sons Jack & Stephen worked with dad up until Cooley Distillery sold to Jim Beam in 2011; as part of the deal, they purchased 16,000 casks of aged whiskey – blending these, they launched Teeling Distillery in 2012 and 3 years later established a new distillery in Dublin, a stone’s throw from the original..
Was first new distillery in Dublin for 125 years (used to be over 37 distilleries in Dublin alone!)
