Location chosen due to:
- Location: completely enclosed by mountains and sandwiched between two rivers. Sendai's fresh water, suitable humidity and crisp air produce soft and mild malt.

2015 - worldwide boom of Japanese whisky caused the stocks to dwindle drastically
- Nikka to announce a complete changeover of its whisky portfolio
- All previously existing bottlings of 10-year-old, 12-year-old and 15-year-old Miyagikyo whisky were discontinued.
- Introduced the new no-age-statement Miyagikyo single malt whisky, which will probably be the only available single malt bottling of the distillery in the coming years, aside from a few remainders in the stocks of retailers.
This whisky – has unique distillation method for malted barley. Distilled in one of two Coffey stills, a traditional continuous still which is normally used to produce grain (corn) whisky.
Colour: Gold
Nose: Fresh and clean, toffee, toffee apple, marmalade, rich cake spices.
Palate: Soft creamy toffee, some spice, quite a mouthfeel and richly textured, with cinnamon and clove on the palate, and citrus-tinged freshness
Finish: burnt toffee, blend of dense spices, rich oak, and lemon and orange notes.
With water: Warming, diluted honey, runny toffee
