A combination of sherry, bourbon and whisky re-fill casks are chosen to achieve the perfect balance of the characteristic nutty and sherry flavours of Bunnahabhain
The only distillery on the island to use pure, spring water. Drawn from our namesake, the Margadale River — via pipes that lead directly to the distillery — their water is not influenced by the abundance of peat found throughout the Islay landscape. This pure, non-peated water contributes towards the light signature character of Bunnahabhain
Two types of barley are used, depending on which whisky is being made.
Non-peated whiskies, non-peated concerto malted barley and for their ‘Mòine’ whisky they use peated concerto malted barley. Both barley types are passed through their Porteus Mill, which grinds it into ‘grist’, before being transferred into our mash tun for mixing with heated spring water.

Nose - Fresh and aromatic, fruity floral with hints of dried fruit and a subtle prevalence of smoke.
Palate - Light with fruit notes, nutty flavours with a sweetness and slight hints of vanilla and caramel.
Finish - Lingering, beautifully rich and full-bodied.
