Castle Hill to All Saints Church Hunmanby

Photo above: The traditional village of Hunmanby, betwixt Yorkshire Wolds and Coast. The conservation area was awarded to the heart of the village in 1975

Hunmanby is an ideal, friendly, village to have a short break especially if you would like to have a holiday without the car, don't drive or would like a more environmentally friendly holiday. Many visitors come back year on year and eventually fulfil their dream of living here, enjoying the slower pace of life. For a rural village the range of accommodation is impressive.

The village has pretty much all the facilities you could need, complemented by an improved hourly train service, that operates, 7 days a week. (This started in May 2019)

Full details from the Northern Rail Website.

In addition most trains are direct to and from Sheffield, via Hull, Brough, Goole, Doncaster and Meadowhall, thus no change of train required.

If you are travelling from London, the nicest and easiest way to travel to Hunmanby is either a Hull Trains Service from London Kings Cross to Hull or a London North Eastern Train to Doncaster. Both options involve just one change of train, and you have an amazing view of the Humber and the Humber Bridge.

The village is also complimented by an hourly bus service between Scarborough and Bridlington

Rosedale Fishing Lake (Ideal or an angling short break) Tel 07957 145711

Located in what was the old clay pit and only a 5 minute walk from Hunmanby Railway Station. Rosedale Fishing is a mature lake set 5 acres of idyllic surroundings. If it is one or two days or even a full week of fishing you need. Depths vary from 3 feet to 20 feet, with many features such as 3 islands and mature overhanging trees to all sides providing shade and cover for the fish, lily beds, reeds and bulrushes can also be found in the margins. This makes Rosedale Lake one of, if not the premier fresh water fishing venue on the Yorkshire Coast. The lake is generously stocked with carp, including mirrors, common and ghosties, which average around 10lb but run up to the early 20s providing excellent sport. Additionally large numbers of bream, roach and perch can be caught everywhere on the lake plus a good head of barbel, chub, tench, rudd and ide. There are some elusive eels which run over 9lb and a few large catfish which were introduced in the mid 80s which now weigh in excess of 50lb. Pleasure catches of 100lb are common in the summer!

If you are an angler, where else in the country could you get of a train at a rural village and walk to such a tranquil fishing lake, supported by a tackle shop on site?

Rosedale Fishing Lake has furnished caravans from an overnight stay to perhaps a week.
