Photo Above:  Platform one, & the train is heading north to Scarborough.  It is taken from the passenger bridge & you can see the taxi rank running alongside the platform, with the main station frontage out of view.  Date late 50s, so everything would change in the next decade when platforms 1-3 were demolished & the main entrance changed to the south side of the station. Photo thanks to the late Tony Ross.

two steam hauled excursion trains heading home from the coast

Heading south, on the left is the Filey Holiday Camp to London Kings Cross Summer Saturday Restaurant Car Express in 1954. It is seen passing Bridlington South Signal Box with K3, 61872. The other locomotive is station pilot 4MT locomotive, 43131 which is taking an empty coaching stock out of platform 8. On the extreme right is the former steam shed at Bridlington with 2 more locomotives in steam. The much shorter 'summer season' on the Yorkshire Coast in the 1950's would see full utilisation of platforms 5-8. Photo thanks to the late Tony Ross.

Sumer Saturday May 1969 to May 1970 timetable  May 1969 to May 1970 Monday to Friday and 'Winter' Saturday train service

Photographs above show the May 1969 to May 1970 British Railways Eastern Region Timetable (cost 3 Shillings.)

What is often overlooked is how basic the passenger train service was. There were large gaps in the service, especially at village stations. Today the weekday frequency is a half hourly frequency between Hull and Bridlington and an hourly service onto Scarborough. Thanks to Peter Robinson for the donation of timetables for the old British Railways Eastern Region from the 1960's and 70's
