Half-day course on publicity: Do you have The Write Stuff?

Wednesday 28 May 2014
10:00 to 12:00

How to write attention-grabbing and engaging copy. Tips on telling a story, and a few rules to make work faster to read – and faster to write! This half-day session looks at examples of good, bad and mediocre writing.

The tutor*, a professional writer for more than 30 years, helps with grammar, punctuation, vocabulary – which participants often feel they have forgotten from schooldays. This is useful for anyone who needs to write persuasive copy. All participants will learn simple techniques to make their writing style more direct and vibrant. We look at common mistakes - and how to avoid making them.

Participants are welcome to send examples of their own [or their organisation’s] leaflets, posters, annual reports, website copy, etc., for some one-to-one feedback from the tutor.

* Trainer Lynne Walsh is a journalist, media adviser, campaigner and trainer. Freelance since 1993, Lynne has reported for and edited newspapers and magazines, worked on major health campaigns, and advised a number of government departments, quangos, professional organisations and charities on their communications work.

Lynne was a volunteer for five years on Appropriate Adult schemes covering Kingston, Richmond and Twickenham, and is now media adviser to the Women’s Resource Centre. She divides her time between writing, editing, training, campaigning and supporting her national rugby team through thick and thin.
