I know well that June rains just fall…   Onitsura

May 2019

Dear member,

Meeting held 25th April

Well Hostas are not my favourite plants but John Baker & his wife certainly gave us a wonderful illustrated talk on them. Their garden is full of these weird plants and not a slug in sight! It seems that if you grow the blue varieties you won’t get the horrible slimy creatures and even if you don’t, there are several methods to ward them off.

Ron gave a VOT and the Bakers judged the competitions.

Plant Fair Saturday 11th May

Our plant fair was very successful achieving a total well over £200 which was a great achievement – final figures to be announced at our next meeting. Thank you to all who came along to sell, to buy and to help in general.

Notices:

Eileen & I wish to thank all those who sent us such kind heartfelt messages following our bereavement. It has been a very difficult time for us and will continue to have repercussions for some time. We would also like to thank you for attending Dee’s funeral on May 1st. This turned out to be a less solemn occasion with much of the programme chosen by her son David, with Jerusalem given a stirring rendition from 3 choirs in the congregation.

The undertakers were fascinated by our unusual choice of casket, but this seemed to be most fitting for Dee who so loved all wild things especially birds and flowers. We will remember Dee with affection when we hear church bells as they too were her passion. Thank you.
