HISTORY

Thames Valley Horticultural Society was founded in 1946 originally holding meetings at the Congregational Church Hall Staines, then for many years at Christ Church Hall, before moving to The Fordbridge Park Bowls Clubhouse, Fordbridge Park, Kingston Road, ASHFORD, Middlesex, TW15 3SJ

There have been 12 past Chairmen, nine men and three women, one of which held office for 15 years. Our current Chairman Jose Green took up office again in 2016 following Lesley Williams who was elected in 2013., and sadly died in May 2017.

The Society has enjoyed a long period of stability with a healthy membership of over 200 at its peak.

Along with monthly meetings where members could enjoy a talk from a visiting expert, demonstrations and the like, the society enjoyed exhibiting members flowers, fruit & vegetables, art & craft, cookery & photography in our Spring & Autumn Shows. Unfortunately due to the decline in membership, many of these activites are no longer viable, although we continue to engage some interesting speakers with a wide range of horticultural and associated topics

Amongst our past organised trips were venues in England visiting flower shows, grand houses & gardens expanding to Belgium, France, Germany &  Holland for International Flower Shows, and on one occasion a longer stay in New Zealand was enjoyed.

Amongst our accolades was winning a Silver Gilt Award at the RHS Hampton Court Show in 2000, and two Silver Awards at RHS Chelsea 2001-2004.

The Society meets every last Thursday in the month at The Fordbridge Park Bowls Clubhouse (see address above) - visitors are most welcome -  cost £2
