5k summer series 2023 - results 19th July

We had a beautiful evening to round off the 2023 series. Thank you to everyone who came, whether to participate, volunteer or support. Quite a few members of Injured Runners AC were present, and I'm sure their vocal support was very much appreciated.

It was business as usual at the front of the field, with Charlie Edwards of Hillingdon embarrassing the lead bike by overtaking it in the final kilometre. Patrick Butler of Burnham Joggers came through in second to seal his position as overall male winner. Patrick’s times were uncannily similar at each race, whereas third-placed James Lally from Datchet Dashers knocked a nice chunk off his time on each occasion.

Sarah Gerrie had another commanding lead in the women's field, finishing seventh overall, and completing a very consistent set of performances.

Finish sprint of the race - perhaps even of the series - has to go to Jennifer Coleman of Burnham Joggers, who turned on the after burners as she entered the finish field. The runners she overtook were perhaps less impressed, but apparently she’s been doing some interval training on the track, so there’s a tip!

Hayes & Harlington were heard celebrating yet another birthday before the start. They seem to have one at every race. This time it was their photographer Mark, so congratulations to him.

Afterwards, Ian Smales did a sterling job of presenting the awards and there will be photos of that and all the action on the website photo album as soon as Fred and Neena have done all their camera magic.
