My predecessor had created pages which I'm guessing were once published but for some reason where then unpublished. I am trying to publish them again but they are not showing on the site. The pages show when I click on the Preview button but there is nothing on the website.
If you click the View Live button, do you see the page?
If so, it's probably that the page just isn't in the navigation. Tick the Include in navigation menu? option in the Edit tab and publish, and you should see it appear.
