I am setting up my site and having a similar issue.

I would like to keep te site open to 'All' but remove the 'Request to join' function as well. I am using the Fresh theme but do not see that this was implemented.

Is there any custom CSS to be had please?

Sorry to repeat myself but I really want to resolve this before I make the site live and line our existing domain. 

Looking at the Showcase I am seeing several sites that do not have 'Log in' options on menu and would really like to remove it.

Any suggestions please.

In the Fresh theme there's an option in the theme settings to show/hide the Login/Join buttons. You as administrator can just navigate directly to the admin pages and you'll be asked to log in.

Also you can set the Membership Policy under Users & Permissions to what is appropriate for your site. If you don't want people to be able to join then ensure it's set to Private.

Thanks Joe, I didn't fully understand the implications of making it 'Private'. I now see that the 'public' can still see all the necessary pages without 'Logging in'.
