General Support: Archive

Posted by Alan-Parry (Euphonix Admin). on

I have noticed that at the foot of "Our File" folder there is a link marked

Download an archive of the contents of this folder
Note: This may take a whiole, please be patient

As a local administrator should I be creating an archive and if so how.  Or, is an Archive automatically created at the end of each day or on a regular basis?  I suppose what I am also asking is what is the purpose of downloading an archive (can I restore recently deleted folders or files)?

At Tewin Village we used to take weekly archives of our document folders. (In the past we've had less experienced admins accidentally deleting documents.) The archives have been very useful if and when we've needed to restore any.

However since the move to the new server we get an error message everytime we try to take an archive. It would be really good if this was fixed.

Hi Felicia,

How do you go about taking weekly archives of your documents folder?  I can only see provision for downloading an archive, not actually creating one.

If you (or anyone else) can enlighten me I will be really grateful.

Many thanks,

Hi Alan,

Download an Archive actually means Create and Archive an Archive. Try one!

This is now fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience - it was all my fault!

I don't seem to be able to create an Archive.  I keep on getting the following message (3 time now)

Server Error

There was a server error processing your request. We apologize.

Take me back where I was (before the error)

I've just established that by breaking the amount of data to be downloaded to create an archive into smaller sizes it works.  But I'm unable to download an archive of the whole of the documents on my site at one go, which I was originally trying to do.

Is there a means of downloading the Assets Library as an Archive, in case an item gets deleted accidentally?

I've done some fixes in the 'download archive' code. There was a problem whereby it could generate two files with the same name. It should hopefully work OK now.

There still seems to be a problem if you're downloading a very large archive (many hundreds of megabytes) that the server will get confused and return an error. I don't understand why this is because all the code seems fine and a larger file isn't really any differerent to a smaller one!

Anyway, all being well you'll now have a bit more success with the archives!

Thanks

Joe
