Local Government Reorganisation and Devolution.

The Government is consulting to reduce the current levels of local government into fewer tiers. The white paper seeks to reduce the current tiers of Essex County Council and Chelmsford City Council in to one tier with an elected mayor. The role of the Police Fire and Crime Commissioner will be rolled in to the role of the role of Mayor.

THIS HAS BEEN PAUSED BY THE GOVERNMENT DUE TO LEGAL CHALLANGES - SEPTMBER 2026.

The Government is consulting to reduce the current levels of local government into fewer tiers. The plan is to reduce costs and keep the local government close to the local electorate.

The Parish Council has responded to the two consultations.
