Hagg Bridge Closure - Updated 30th October 2020

Completion of the work on Hagg Bridge has been delayed.  Below is a copy of a statement issued to Council clerks by East Riding Council's Principal Engineer this past week:

'I am writing to you regarding the works to Hagg Bridge. The work has up until now been going very well but unfortunately we have discovered a critical technical issue during construction which is going to have a consequence regarding the planned opening of the structure.

The reinforced concrete slabs which have been constructed to relieve the masonry arch and as a structural base for the erection of the vehicle restraint system has been found to be defective. The contractor is investigating the issue at present and it is likely that the contractor will have to carry out remedial works to ensure that the concrete slabs meet the necessary specification.

Unfortunately this means that the bridge is unlikely to open this month as further work to the concrete slabs is likely to be required. I will keep you updated with the investigations that we will be carrying out, the outcome and any further work that is required.'

**Update 27th October 2020 -

Hagg Bridge Update See below latest update from ERYC regarding Hagg Bridge.

'No revised reopening date as yet, following the issues identified with the concrete used in the construction which require rectifying: At present we are carrying out analysis on the concrete and also carrying out engineering design on various methods that will mitigate the effects of the weaker than specified concrete at Hagg Bridge. Unfortunately this is not a quick process and will take some time as further laboratory tests are required, however this work is essential to ensure that the most beneficial method of mitigation is used so that the integrity of the bridge is maintained. We will endeavour to carry out this work and reopen the bridge as quickly as possible.'
