Volunteer Role ~ Driver
Refugee Action Kingston (RAK) is the main provider of direct services to refugees and asylum seekers in Kingston.
RAK is a small organisation reliant on dedicated volunteers to help us in our mission to support refugees to successfully integrate into their local community. We achieve this by delivering a variety of outcomes for refugee and asylum-seeking families through advice, information, counselling, education, training, and employment opportunities. Whether you’re helping in our offices, in our Learning Centre or supporting clients one-to-one, your role can have a powerful impact.
Main purpose of the role
This volunteering opportunity provides our team with valuable support in the delivery of our fundraising efforts through the RAK online store.
Main Responsibilities
- Collecting clothing and other donations from donors' homes, the RAK office and other collection points.
- Delivering donated items to our sorting facility, and on occasions, to other locations convenient for pick-up by our friends and service users.
- Skills, abilities and qualities
- Access to your own form of transport with license and appropriate insurance.
- The ability to carry out the role flexibly according to need, at times in an unscheduled or ad hoc manner, although we will aim to keep this to a minimum.

Time commitment
A commitment of 3-6 months in the role is preferred.
As the demand for this service changes, the hourly commitment and number of collections that we will need you to do will vary. Ideally, you will be able to set aside one day each week to be available on, both for scheduled pick-ups and ‘on call’ in case of any unexpected needs.
Induction and training
You will complete initial RAK volunteer training and ongoing training as needed. The training will also assess your skills and ability for the role.
When funding is available, accredited interpreting training can be offered.
On-going support
- Out of pocket expenses including the use of your own car at £0.45/mile
- Regular contact with the staff team at RAK
- Further training as required
