SOCIAL MEDIA VOLUNTEER

An exciting opportunity to support the work of Refugee Action Kingston managing different social media channels. We are starting to explore how to engage with the community and promote volunteering.

OVERVIEW

Refugee Action Kingston is a local organisation that provides services and programmes for people who are seeking asylum and refugees. Supporting, advising and empowering refugees and asylum seekers towards building fulfilled and independent lives through skills development, advice, counselling, and assistance in access to services and employment.

Why do we need you?

We want to grow our social media presence so we can operate in this space successfully, reaching out to people who may need support, encouraging support from the community and raising awareness of our work and impact.

What are the key tasks?

As a Social Media Volunteer, you will be involved in:

  • Maintaining active social media accounts by writing, scheduling and posting compelling content
  • Researching and creating creative content for different social media channels.
  • Keeping up to date with Refugee Action Kingston’s work and interests and promoting this across the different channels
  • Thinking of innovative ways to drive online engagement.
  • Identifying target audiences and being up to date with current trends.

Skills and Experience

You do not need specific skills and experience as training will be provided, but the following will be useful:

  • Commitment to Refugee Action Kingston values of empowerment, accountability, and inclusiveness.
  • Ability to work within Refugee Action Kingston policies and delivery guidance.
  • Experience of using Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
  • Good written communication skills, with accuracy and good attention to detail.
  • Ability to think creatively when sharing content.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and motivated to work as an individual.
  • Ability to deal in a professional manner when communicating online.
  • Basic digital photography experience will be useful but not necessary.

Young People and this role

We are proud of having a diverse volunteer base made up of people from different backgrounds and ages. The minimum age for this role is 16 years old. A risk assessment, parental consent and safeguarding considerations will be required for those aged 16 – 17.

What's next if you are interested?

Once you submit your application, and suitable references are gathered, you will meet with the Refugee Action Kingston Volunteer Co-ordinator for an informal interview. You will then receive a full induction and all the essential training and learning and begin your volunteering journey with Refugee Action Kingston.
