Main objectives of the role:
RAK is delivering an employment project funded by the Henry Smith Charity.
RAK mentors use their knowledge, skills and experience of getting a job, working in a particualr sector and/or setting up a business to support mentees to develop skills and strategies to successfully find employment and develop their career. Mentor support is provided online or by phone. The mentor relationship can last between 6 - 12 months and involve a weekly meeting which is focused on action and support.
Main Responsibilities
- To be available for a weekly meeting with your mentee for between 6 to 12 months
- Provide mentoring support for refugees living in Kingston seeking employment
- Support mentees to access information on a wide range of employment related support and advice
- Support mentees to draw on their own strengths and coping strategies
- Support mentees to identify, set and review SMART goals
- Build relationships with local contacts such as employers, other support charities and local colleges and facilitate referrals to other agencies
- Work within workplace confidentiality, code of conduct and safeguarding policies

- To use your experience of finding a job and working in the UK to support your mentee to realise thier career and training aspirations.
- To have good communication skills and enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds
- Have excellent listening skills and be open to views and opinions that are different from your own
- Be emotionally resilient
- Be willing to work on your own and comply with the RAK lone working policy
- Have an understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and information sharing legislation
- Able and prepared to keep up to date with current information about refugees and the employment sector
- Confidence in using Outlook/email, Microsoft Word, Excel and searching for information on the internet

Time commitment
The time commitment is two hours per week.
Induction and training
You will complete initial RAK volunteer training and ongoing training as needed.
Mentors will also have access to online safeguarding training as appropriate to the role.
On-going support
- Regular contact with the staff team at RAK
- Further training as required
- Bi-annual peer mentor group support
- Out of pocket expenses as agreed
