Independence Day - 70 Years in the making!

Ellesmere Bowling Club is proud to announce a weekend of special events on 16th and 17th May to commemorate the 70th anniversary of its independence. The celebrations mark a pivotal moment in the club’s history. On 16th May 1956, the club officially purchased its site from Lord Brownlow, securing its future as a self-governed community asset. Seven decades later, the club remains a cornerstone of local sport and social life.

The anniversary weekend kicks off on Saturday, 16th May, with an evening of live music at the Comrades Club in Ellesmere. Starting at 7:30 pm, the event invites members and the local community to gather for a night of entertainment. Tickets are £8.00 on the door. Donations for the raffle would be gratefully appreciated.

The festivities continue on Sunday, 17th May, with a high-stakes bowling fixture which see’s the Ellesmere bowlers face off against the "Welsh Dragons" from Overton in a cross-border challenge. The competition will see 12 pairs competing simultaneously: six pairs will play on Ellesmere’s historic top green, while the remaining six pairs travel over the border to compete in Overton. For those members who have been invited to play its a 1.30 meet on the Top Green if playing at home and a 1.20 meet at Sparbridge if travelling to Overton.
