Proceeds from the Langley Park 5K series are donated to local charities each year, including the Friends of Langley Park, who so helpfully provide the marshals on the course. They recently received a cheque for £500 towards all the great work they do in helping to keep the park looking fabulous.
Another beneficiary this year has been Heathrow Special Needs Centre (HSNC). This small local charity provides an environment in which people with special needs and disabilities of all ages can develop and grow in confidence, by working with and being in contact with animals.
The photo shows Barbara Allen, who handles data entry and results for the Langley Park 5K series, presenting a cheque for £500 to trustee Andrew Huxsted (far right in the photo). Left of Barbara, Perry (real name Pirelli) also took an active interest in the presentation. Perry is a 22 year old former polo pony, who was used prior to retirement for Riding for the Disabled.
Money is constantly needed for the upkeep of all the animals and Perry himself needed an expensive operation recently. Further donations are greatly needed to help cover the cost.
Barbara has been volunteering at HSNC on Mondays since the end of 2020. And there’s another connection, as Andrew Huxsted’s wife used to be a member of Datchet Dashers. It’s a small world!
More details about HSNC can be found on their Facebook page.
Runners and volunteers at the Langley Park 5K series are welcome to nominate other charities we could consider next year. We especially favour small local charities who don’t have the profile to attract major funding on their own.
