I am trying to get around a problem as to why I was having difficulty allowing the public to access files we have linked to with hyperlinks (linked to 'Our Files' on our pages without having to 'Log In'.
I think I now understand that it is necessary to allow 'The Public' 'Read' access to the website as well as have Public permission granted to the actual file (is this correct?)
In looking at your help section on the Permissions section of 'Permissions & Sharing' it states:
"Note: you should not give the public write or admin access to your site as anyone on the internet can then modify your site and your site is likely to be attacked by spammers putting up very large quantities of content on your site."
Should that read 'Contribute' rather than 'write'? Or am I getting confused?
Yeah sorry that's somewhat confusing. We renamed 'write' to 'contribute' some years ago and obviously that bit of the documentation didn't get updated!
And yes - the site itself will need to have public read for anything within the site to be public readable.
Thanks
Joe
I wondered if that was the case. Thanks for clarifciation.
