We removed the social sharing buttons - they were little used, and also were a bit of a privacy concern (allowed the third party company to track people, and also set a cookie).

If you are desperate to have a sharing system you can sign yourself up to a service like AddThis, then embed their custom code into your theme settings in the header/footer as appropriate.

The documentation certainly needs an overhaul - sorry for misleading you! I've taken out references to the social sharing, but there are lots more areas where I need to update the documentation too.
