If we wanted to accept online donations, via PayPal or stripe for example, could we add a payment button on our website?

You can create a payment button on PayPal, then embed the button source onto your site.

There's some help available on the PayPal site for creating buttons. e.g., https://www.paypal.com/us/smarthelp/article/how-do-i-add-a-paypal-payment-button-to-my-website-faq3629
