As you're probably aware, Google now requires websites to be mobile-friendly in order to rank high in its search engine, and anyway more and more people are accessing the web on mobile devices. Voice itself doesn't pass Google's test (https://www.google.co.uk/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/) and neither does my Voice website, nor I guess most others.

Are there any plans to update Voice to enable us to buidl mobile friendly sites using the system?

Hi - yes it'e easier than you think - you just need to use one of the two newer themes, Modern or Bootstrap.

These are both responsive themes and work well on mobile devices.

As an example, the Voice Demo Site is running the Modern theme, and it passes Google's "Mobile Friendly" test.

These two themes are very configurable with colour schemes, banners, layout options, etc. So even if you don't like it at first you can tweak them quite a lot until you find something you're happy with.

There's further documentation about the themes here.

I hope that helps!

I am aware that the main Voice theme itself isn't mobile friendly. I will look into changing this. For example, one of our sister sites, Surrey Community, uses the Modern theme too for their system which seems to work well!

Thanks

"Google now requires websites to be mobile-friendly in order to rank high in its search engine"

This statement is not actually true. Google prioritises mobile friendly sites in searches made by mobile devices but it does not penalise desktop sites in searches.
