A couple of the members of our website have forgotten their passwords, which they now need to access a private area. Can I, as administrator set a new password for them? If not, how do we get them logged back in?

If they go to the login page there is a "Forgotten your password" link, which will email them a new one.
Only sitewide administrators can reset another user's password - not individual site admins.
