We are still on high alert for grassland fire and everyone needs to be vigilant about fires. People should think carefully before lighting BBQs and monitor compost heaps very carefully especially if they are near fences or hedges. A compost heap generates a lot of heat and can combust under certain circumstances.
Possible hosepipe bans
It has rained but unfortunately not where we get water from. The drinking water for the area comes from North Wales which is under drought conditions at the moment, therefore there is the potential for a hosepipe ban.
Flooding grants
I sent out an email the other week asking for any properties that my get flooded in the wet weather either river flooding or surface water flooding. Two properties were names, Raikes Hall farm and Raikes Farm. Raikes Hall Farm is being looked at by Matthew Salter, ever since it flooded out 3 years ago in fact. Raikes Farm is very close to Raikes road and therefore can be flooded out with surface water and then gets hit again with people quivkly driving though the flood. This causes a back wash with affects the property. This has been passed onto WBC who will do a home visit and then decided whether permanent or temporary flood defences are needed.

The water is getting cleaner now the rain has come and the measurements are promising.
The mending of the flood barrier in Garstang
Eventually after many months the second flood gate is being repaired in Garstang. Here are some images from the drone.
£6000 Gift for Native species planting
The David James Foundation are offering a gift of up to £6000 over the next two years for the planting of native species. This money or the equivalent in training and skills is being made available to the local area for the planting of native species to attract wild life.
To apply for the gift send a proposal for your project to das@bcs.org. Closing date is 12th August 2026.
Resilience Exercise
Following the successful flood exercise British Red Cross plan a second exercise. I am still awaiting confirmation of this from British Red Cross.
ERAL Radio checks
The next check is at 9:30 am on 30th July 2026. GE1 is on station
Volunteers needed for radio check
The next ERAL radio check is at the end of August but I am in meetings that day and someone needs to man the radio. Any volunteers, I will give training to those volunteering.
