Using the ERAL Radio units

The Base station:

This is located in the office of the Village Centre

Handheld Radio - GECC 1 and GECC 2

GECC 1 is held at The Flood Officer's house in the Wyre river flood area. GECC 2 is held in the Thorne Meadows are which is liable to surface water flooding. Please make sure the units are in a safe place and fully charhed up. They must only be used for the stated purpose

Setting up the units

  • Switch on the set.
  • Set the radio to County (Zone 2) and set for Barnacre.
  • Lock Barnacre into place and keep on this setting
  • Turn off the radio

When testing

  • Swirch on the radio to half way on the volume
  • Turn on at 0925 
  • The Net call period is 0930 to 0945
  • Wait for Central control to call. 
  • Control will opern at 0930 and invite agencies (individuals) by their call sign to join the Net test call.
  • Flood officer is GECC1 and Volunteers are GECC2 or GECCBase  
  • Please respond with your call sign and a signal report, you will get an idea about this from others before you.
  • eg This is GECC2 receiving you loud and clear, over
  • Net Control will then respond and acknowledge with your signal report and then Out to you

Things to remember

Do NOT use Over and out as it is a useless comment. Over means you are passing control to the Net and out means you are closing down

  • Speak clearly and into the radio 
  • Always identify yourself with your call sign
  • Keep your message short and relevant
  • Say OVER when you finish speaking and are waiting for a reply
  • Say OUT when you have finished the conversation completely
  • Your transmission can be heard by all those online
  • Do not pass on personal or sensitive information
