Flash flooding – some tips
If you are susceptible to surface water then here is a tip. If thunderstorms are forecast then water your garden where is is likely flood. If it like a sponge. If water is poured on a dry sponge it will run off until the sponge gets wet then it will soak in. therefore watering gardens / lawns allows it to get damp. When the heavy rain comes it will soak in better and stop the flooding.
New run offs for Raikes Road
The Raikes Road run off is to be improved to stop the flooding on Water Lane. Currently the run off is overgrown therefore in et weather Water Lane floods badly. United Utilities are planning to improve the run off to alleviate this.

We are at that time of year again when the rain falls on super dry ground. Following the recent rains the following information may be important:
If vollages have had flood water in their homes, they will get advice from their home & contents insurers about what to do next. If they don’t have insurance, they are best advised to contact their local district or city council for help with cleaning up
If anyone has had foul water (dirty water from sewers)coming into their property, they should report it to their local water company, which may be able to help with cleaning and will certainly want to investigate any possible failings in their networks. United Utilities covers most of Lancashire with Yorkshire Water providing services in parts of United Utilities plc: 0345-672-3723
Any long-lasting ponding of water in the road should be reported to LCC Highways as a highway drainage problem for investigation and appropriate repairs. If this is or may be connected to a blocked gully, it can be reported as a highway fault through the Love Clean Streets App (Report it - Lancashire County Council) or directly through the council's website with photographs and other supporting records (Give us your feedback ). If it is anything more complicated, we advise that people telephone on 0300-123-6780 during normal working hours
The Lead Local Flood Authority – represented by my team – needs to know about all flooding events, especially where it has come into private property, so that we can investigate responsibly and identify whether there may be a case for grant funding to help with long-term improvements to an area. Please report flooding to property to us through the Love Clean Streets app or through the council's website ( Reporting a flood incident (after a flood) - Lancashire County Council ). The app and the web form both complete all our behind-scenes records for us so we will always ask you to use those forms of communication. Having said that, people are always welcome to ring 0300-123-6780 during normal working hours with as much detail as possible. Please don’t report details to us through the team email address, as that will mean we have to fill in all the records for you by hand, delaying our progress with investigating. If we need to share the information that you give us with other drainage authorities for a full investigation, we will do so under carefully controlled data protection processes. We will not pass the information on to any insurance companies, trades companies, newspapers, private individuals or other people/organisations outside the flood risk management authorities. If you have already reported to another drainage authority (for example the Environment Agency, your district/city council or United Utilities), you don’t need to report again to us.
If anyone wants advice on how to manage their risks of flooding again, they can contact their local Flood Action Group or Community Resilience Group where there is one.
