Emergency Planning Update:
Severe Weather and Flood Preparedness
Following a recent meeting of the national flood discussion group regarding the potential for an increased risk of severe weather and flooding later in the year, the flood officer will be undertaking a review of our severe weather and flood preparedness arrangements.
This update will include:
• Reviewing the village's severe weather and flood response procedures.
• Reviewing response arrangements.
• Adding flood protection supplies where required.
• Providing refresher training and awareness sessions for relevant flood warderns.
• Reviewing lessons identified from the BRC training incident and discussing how we would respond to future severe weather and flooding events.
As part of this work, and in conjunction with the Parish Council we will introduce flood warderns
Review and monitor the flood areas and unblock gulleys where needed.
These measures help ensure our infrastructure remain operational and ready
for deployment should it be required.
It may also be useful to remind the villge that we do not hold stocks of sand bags. Therefore we need to make use of Wyre Council's stock. However WBC does not hold large quantities of sandbags for distribution to residents. The Council maintains a limited stock to help protect
critical infrastructure and key assets where necessary. We should therefore continue to make their own preparations for flooding where possible.
We do have access to the ERAL radio systenm and therefore we need to keep the radios in good working order and charged. Regular chacks both in the village and as part of the monthly check need to be carried out,.
Lancashire Resilience Forum Flood Plan
The Lancashire Resilience Forum (LRF) Flood Plan has now been issued for consultation. The plan is due for formal review in November. Wyre Council Officers will be reviewing the document and providing comments through the consultation process. The plan continues to
provide the framework for how responding agencies work together during significant flood events across Lancashire.
Multi-Agency Flood Training
The Lancashire Resilience Forum is currently planning its next multi-agency flood training event for partners. This year's exercise will be hosted by Hyndburn Borough Council. Several Wyre Council officers will be attending to support continued learning and partnership working. These events provide a valuable opportunity to share experiences, develop relationships, and improve understanding of each organisation's role during flood incident
