Narciso's Kitchen
Our Delhi Rd kitchen has always been synonymous with the rich aromas, tastes, and memories of Goan food. Throughout our school days, Saturday belonged to Dad. To help Mum out, he would take over the kitchen to cook his favourite five meat dishes for the coming week—filling not only our home but the entire street with the scent of aromatic spices.
Narciso was not a tidy cook. The kitchen was often left in a shambles, with five separate dishes on the go in various stages of preparation. He was, however, a meticulous one; if a recipe called for an obscure ingredient, he refused to improvise. Instead, he would abandon the kitchen mid-flow and drive to Edmonton Green to find it, leaving the room looking like the Mary Celeste.
