AGM & Film Night

Tuesday 13 May 2014
19:30 to 21:30

Free film evening

On 13 May there's a chance to see the award-winning film The Economics of Happiness – guaranteed to get you thinking about how the world could work better.
It's a powerful look at today's global economy, where apples are sent from the UK to South Africa to be washed and waxed, then shipped back to British supermarkets. And where tuna is caught off the coast of America, flown to Japan to be processed, then flown back to the US.
It shows governments and big business promoting globalisation and the consolidation of corporate power, and how people all over the world are resisting these forces and coming together to form more human-scale, ecological economies.
The film proposes practical solutions for local businesses and local communities, including urban gardens in Detroit, USA and the Transition Town movement in Totnes, Devon.
To see the film, just come to our annual meeting at 7.30pm at the Meeting Place (Baptist church), North Street on 13 May. We'll need to get a few quick formalities done first, like electing a committee, then it will straight on to the film, with cheese and wine. Donations will be very welcome.
