Ride or stride on 22 June

Sunday 22 June is the day to get your bike or your walking shoes out and join the Family Fun Ride and Stride.

Last year's event, the first ever, was a big success and loads of fun. This year we've added a walking route too, for those who prefer feet to wheels.

The main bike and walk routes are four or five miles, taking in Westbourne and Woodmancote, though you can choose a shorter route if you like. There are plenty of opportunities for pub stops.

The event is officially part of National Bike Week and is being kindly sponsored by the White Horse and Woodmancote pubs.

To take part, just turn up at the White Horse in the Square, register and go – you don’t need to be a keen cyclist or walker (or be with a family). The timetable goes like this:

2pm - register

2.30pm to 5pm - ride/walk the circuits, doing as many laps as you like in the time available.

5pm - end of event and award ceremony

There will be badges and certificates for taking part, and a barbecue at the White Horse.

Emsworth Cycles will be on hand to check bikes, and police security marking will be available too.

The event is being organised by Greening Westbourne and the local 20’s Plenty campaign, and apart from a being a great village event, it's aimed at reminding us all that short journeys can be easy on a bike, and that our roads need to be safe for people of all ages.

Entry costs are: adults £2, under-16s £1, family (two adults, up to three children) £5. Money raised will help ensure we cover the cost of the event.
