LITTER PICKING

Keep Britan TidyWe invite you to join us in our efforts to keep Sutton Green and Victoria Gardens clean, safe and enjoyable places to visit. It's because a few people still can’t be bothered to use the litter bins provided and just chuck their rubbish on the grass, that we supplement the Council’s contractors idVerde’s efforts to keep the area litter-free by holding regular litter-picks. Watch out for forthcoming dates.

REPORT FULL BINSOverflowing bin

Another problem we sometimes encounter is the litter bins fill up so quickly and aren’t emptied frequently enough in busy periods. This can be particularly noticeable during the warmer summer and autumn months when The Green is a popular destination for many people.  If you see an overflowing litter bin on the Green or Victoria Gardens please report it on the Council’s website or report a bin here.

ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

We do unfortunately suffer from occasional anti-social behaviour on The GreeAlcohol is banned on The Greenn and Victoria Gardens, although the gates into Victoria Gardens and the childrens playgroud have helped reduce this. The whole area is subject to a Public Space Protection Order (No10) which means it is an offence to consume alcohol in the area. If you see groups of drinkers you can report it to the Safer Parks Team on 020 8721 2268 or Sutton North Safer Neighbourhood Team on 020 8721 2494. Of course, if urgent action is needed, always ring 999. The are two phone boxes nearby if you don’t have a mobile phone handy.

INJURED OR DISTRESSED WILDLIFE

An area of grassland surrounded by trees and hedges can be a magnet for many species of urban Hedgehogwildlife. As well as the familiar dogs out for a walk with their owners, more unseen visitors to the area include foxes, hedgehogs, squirrels and even stray cats. Don't forget all the birds in the area - magpies, jays, blackbirds, blue tits, great tits, long-tailed tits, sparrows, dunnocks and the ubiquitous pigeons.  If you see an injured or distressed animal on any local area of grassland, please help them.
