Resilience and Adaptation Oval

In the flood plain of the Thames, Cricklade is used to flooding every winter. However, climate change is bringing more extended heavier periods of rain which make it likely that past flood height records will be exceeded. These will also create flash floods, in other parts of the town, as rain water struggles to pass through narrow gaps and/or drains are overwhelmed.

Heat waves are also becoming more intense and longer lasting. Heat is uncomfortable but can also be life-threatening for the very young, the old, and those with heart problems or other long term health conditions.

Cricklade Resilience Team works to anticipate and respond to severe climate related weather events. We can all play our part by learning how to keep our homes as dry and cool as possible. Using water butts and permeable driveways to slow down rain water before it enters the drainage system. Click here for more information.
