“The weather we are living in today is the least extreme we will experience in our lifetimes.”
46 people saw the film in the Town Hall on a warm Saturday afternoon at the end of July. UK experts in the People’s Emergency Briefing Film unpack the implications for our food, health, security, nature, and economy. Opening with the quote above, they explain the science behind it, highlighting the risks and the possibilities to adapt.
In Cricklade there are a number of things we could do individually, and as a community, to meet these changes. We can adapt our homes, our diets, and our gardens, for wetter winters and hotter, drier summers. We can save money by acting sooner and acting together. In CriSP, we believe we must create the energy, food, water and nature infrastructure needed for safe and healthy living.
The Cricklade Sustainability Group has been formed to help find ways to adapt. While each person must do what is right for them, we can also save money and have greater impact acting together. A group of houses installing solar panels at the same time can lower their costs. Neighbours can create wildlife corridors across their adjoining gardens. We can share tasty recipes for plant rich meals. Grants and low-cost loans are becoming available to support the changes.
As requested, we have organised a second screening on Wednesday 16th September at 7pm at the Town Hall. Entry is free, but please book so we have an idea of numbers. A follow-on meeting, to agree how we can help Cricklade to adapt, will be organised later in September. For more information, to join us for the film or the follow-on meeting, please book via Ticket Tailor or contact info@crispaction.org.
