BARTLOW THREE COUNTIES WALK
A very big thank you to all those who assisted in making the day such a huge success. The weather was just perfect and participant numbers were up on previous years. With one or two final issues to be sorted out it looks like we will have had a record year for walkers. There will be a meeting in June when the final figures for the number of walkers and the total amount raised for distribution among the three charities will be announced.
We are all asked to email Duncan (Duncan.ogilvy@btinternet.com) with any feedback, good or bad, before the end of May while the walk is fresh in our minds.
BVA
At the meeting of the Committee on 18th May it was decided that the Summer event should be “A Round around Bartlow”, on Sunday 2nd July.
This will comprise of a round of golf (in various forms) around the village, finishing at Booking Hall, where there will be a number of activities , a BBQ and of course drinks. It is hoped that this will be a family event. Further details will be circulated as soon as the course has been agreed. We look forward to your support on the day.
INSTALLATION OF FIBRE TO BARTLOW
The following communications have taken place in connection with the installation.
Stephen, Further to your query at last night’s Broadband Champions meeting about Fibre to the Premise (FTTP) coming to Bartlow , I thought it might be useful to clarify the process and check our FTTP information on the Connecting Cambridgeshire website is useful – as we are getting more queries about FTTP as it rolls out.
We expect the installation of fibre to Bartlow - via cables on poles - to be completed by the end of April, and you may see Openreach engineers carrying out this work. The complex commissioning process to link up with the network usually takes 6-8 weeks, so we anticipate the fibre broadband will go live and should be available to order by the end of June, provided there are no technical issues.
Residents who want to upgrade to superfast broadband will then be able to contact their Internet Service Provider to find out if they can order a FTTP fibre broadband package. Because this is new technology, BT and PlusNet are currently the main Internet Service Providers (ISPs) offering FTTP services, though we expect other providers such as Sky and TalkTalk to be coming on stream soon.
Once an order for FTTP has been placed, the last link of fibre into the home/business from the nearest distribution point needs to be installed by a broadband engineer. Residents who choose not to upgrade to fibre broadband will continue to receive their telephone and slower ADSL broadband services via the existing copper lines.
You pay for the speed package that you order, regardless of the technology. With FTTP, residents will be able to upgrade to speeds of up to 300Mbps, which is more expensive, or they can order standard superfast speeds at the same price paid by Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) customers.
We will update you when it is confirmed by BT that the fibre is live and people can order. Please let us know if it would be useful to have a short article about upgrading to FTTP for your village newsletter or website to help spread the word.

You may be aware that there was a meeting in West Wickham on April 20th to mark progress made with super fast broadband in the region as well as to discuss ongoing work required in this area. The meeting was attended by Matt Hancock and Lucy Frazer and Bartlow's Broadband Champions, Stephen Bugg and Chairman of the Parish Council, Duncan Ogilvy.
The meeting was to mark the progress made in improving broadband connections in South East Cambridgeshire and address any outstanding issues. Stephen and Duncan’s hard work and input was recognized as being of great value in the campaign to get superfast broadband delivered to the area. It is expected that by the end of June 2017 South East Cambridgeshire will have 94% coverage. The issue of how to connect the remaining 6% remains high on the agenda. Progress relating to mobile connectivity was also discussed This meeting was a celebration of what has been achieved to date but it was also a fact gathering opportunity with regards to what still needs to be done.
