Joint Twinning Remembrance Day observance

French wreathRemembrance Day 2018 marked the 100th anniversary of the Armistice signed in 1918, signalling the end of World War One.

To pay tribute to this special day, Scoriton and Buckfastleigh and our counterparts in Fontaine-Henry decided to make a joint statement of peaceful solidarity .

As committee member Alison Austin was laying a wreath at Buckfastleigh’s Trinity Church, on the other side of the Channel, Twinning youngsters  Swann, Arthur, Joris and Maud’s wreath bore the same message “Paix et amitié entre les peuples”.

The young people also read the poem “In Flanders Fields” by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae written in December 1915, which was selected for the occasion by Fontaine-Henry mayor Philippe Caillere.
