It was a little disappointing after all the hard work and planning that the turn out was not as good as we hoped for. However, on the positive side,  we welcomed a couple more volunteers, cleared out the garage a bit and raised funds largely thanks to the efforts of Denise and Des with the Giant Teddy Raffle.

Last, but not least we worked as a team – between us we had fun on what could have been a pretty rotten day -  well I did !

More than 75 children and their parents enjoyed the hospitality provided by the Cambridge Road Estates Community Group and the Community Action Partnership at the most recent event provided for local residents on the Cambridge Road Estates.

Fancy dress, food and entertainment in the form of popular children's entertainer Charley Farley combined to make this the most successful event held to date.

A delighted CAP Manager, Mary Graham stated β€˜It has taken us three years but we are finally starting to make a difference - just watching kids of so many different ages and backgrounds laughing together makes it all worthwhile!’

Organised by and manned by the Cambridge Road Estates Community Group committee together with Denise Parry, Community Development Worker, and supported by Norbiton Safer Neighbourhood Team, ASDA and local Green-grocer from Tadlow this was truly a community event.

The fancy dress competition was judged by local Councillors Sheila Griffin and Cllr Steve Mama plus, Safer Neighbourhood Police Inspector Mick Mills.  There was an overall winner and two runners up.  The winner was 5 year old Silver Witch, Rachel.  She was closely followed by   10 year old Pirate, Troy and three year old Red Witch, Taia.

Despite the absolutely terrible weather, a number of families attended bringing their picnics and beautifully dressed teddy bears.

Special thanks must go to Jason Rogers who offered the use of Piper Hall and saved the day.

Feedback from those services who stuck with it was that they made some useful contacts.  At the request of those families who did attend we now intend to offer a similar event (this time indoors) during the October half term.
