It is the first time a Bishop has visited Bartlow certainly since the early 1960’s. The visit was to mark the retirement of Rev’s Lesley Gore who is well known to many of us in Bartlow, not just regular Church goers. Lesley has been leading services in St Mary’s Church for over 15 years and has thoroughly earned a long and happy retirement!
The occasion also marked the opening of our new kitchen/WC facility, (shown to the right of Lesley’s shoulder in the picture!) which was made possible by the imagination and hard work of Stephen Bugg (shown chatting to the Bishop) and financial assistance from the Cambs County Council Community Capital Fund, the Garfield Weston Foundation and a number of individual donations. Thanks to the new facility we hope to have a wide range of events in the Church and its grounds, starting with a village barbecue soon after that, a concert.
