Track and field support

Can you spare some time to support our track and field athletics?

As you are all probably aware Abingdon Athletics Club runs on a team of volunteers. Every coach, official, admin support and team manager as well as a host of others working in the background give their time each week to make our club successful - and this year we have been very successful. There have been hundreds of personal bests, five of our juniors were selected for the prestigious English School Championship, we have won both the senior and vets league but most importantly we have seen many young athletes develop in athletics and enjoy being outside doing sport.

Can you help?

However the track and field section of the club is desperately seeking more volunteers so that we can continue to run successfully. There are a large range of jobs that we really need help with to support Abingdon AC athletes. If you have any spare time or any interest in athletics please could you continue reading and see if you can help with any of the following roles.

Register takers

Six to eight people to take registers with the aim being to take that job away from coaches. This would be a 15-20 minute job every two to three weeks.

The plan would be to have a group of volunteers who on a rota could sign in the young athletes as they enter the stand. Hopefully this would take some of the pressure of the coaches and catch the athletes who arrive late who the coaches can miss off the registers as they are busy leading the session.

We would need one 'head' register person to plan the rota.

Junior League and Quad Kids team managers

We are planning to split the Junior team manager role into two parts to make the job more manageable and have specified person for quad kids (U9/11s) and juniors (U13, U15 & U17) who can link in more closely with the relevant training groups.

We are looking for someone who can organise athletes into a successful team and attend the three competitions during the summer season. The job means there is some planning and paperwork in the weeks leading up to the competition but there are only three competitions per year.

We are desperately seeking someone to fill these two roles so that our junior team has the ability to attend the league next year.

Track and field display board

The display board at the track was updated by one of our coaches at the beginning of the year but it would be wonderful to have 1 person who keeps it up to date. It only needs to be updated once or twice a year and the content can be provided.

Women's club records

There is currently nobody responsible for the Senior/Midlands league club records and it would be great for someone to be in charge of them and update season to season and on an ad hoc basis throughout the year.

Coaching assistants

We are always on the look out for more support within our coaching groups, particularly for anyone who can support our fundamentals, transitions or throws and jumps groups. If you have an interest in throwing/jumping/running, perhaps you enjoyed it at school or just fancy giving it a go we would love to hear from you. The club can fund relevant coaching courses and we would be interested to hear from you even if you can't make it to the track every week.

Officials
