About our great club

The club at Oxford Town and Gown 2015

Everything you need to know about our great club.

Where and when

If you are local to Abingdon, why not come along on a Tuesday or Thursday evening and give us a try?

On Tuesdays, our 'road runners' meet at 6.45pm in the bar (where else!) at Tilsley Park. From here we enjoy runs in the surrounding countryside during the summer months and during the winter we run around Abingdon's streets. There are always a selection of distances and you'll always find someone running at your pace.

Find out more about our local running routes.

We have a wide range of track and field groups, catering for adult and young athlete members. Most of our groups meet on a Tuesday/Thursday evening and some weekends, each group is event specific but all are targeted at a range of different abilities. Coaching is included in your membership but there is a fee for using the track. Visit the Tilsley Park website for details.

Adult competing

Club members take part in a variety of local races throughout the year. These races will be publicised on this website, via Facebook and at club runs on Tuesday evening. Some of the races form part of the Club Championships.

The club also enters the Oxford Mail Cross Country League during the winter – great if you enjoy the challenge of running knee-deep in mud and water – and the spring/summer Mota-vation series consisting of five runs of approximately four miles.

There are also the track and field athletics events – the Midland League and the Vets’ League – which may seem daunting if you are not used to running on the track or can’t remember the last time you threw a discus, but in reality, they are all friendly, inclusive and very encouraging.

Social

Whilst athletics forms the major part of our activities, the club also enjoys social events, for example, we have a monthly chip Tuesday where our Tuesday run is followed by club chips at Tilsley Park. In the summer we meet at various country pubs to run in lovely countryside and along the river. Again followed by chips! A good time is had by all.
