Running for beginners

New to running? Want to run your first 5k but don't know where to start, or just want to get into running in the company of like-minded people?

Beginners group winter 2015

Abingdon AC is here to help!

We run a variety of beginner programmes throughout the year. Including a free couch to 5k group on a Saturday morning alongside Abingdon parkrun and a new members group that meets at Tilsley Park on a Tuesday evening.

Couch to 5k

The next couch to 5K course starts on 2 November 2019. Complete the sign-up form if you'd like to join us (places are limited to 15). Read the course details including the training time-table.

We also have a beginner's blog

Note: Our run leaders are qualified as Leaders in Running Fitness level 1 (LiRF) and are insured for children 12 and over. Younger children are welcome to join the course but they must stay with their parent or guardian.

Joining the club

If you have completed a couch to 5k course or have started running by yourself, you may be thinking about the next step. Joining a running club is a great way to meet new people and will help keep you motivated. As a club we also take part in many local races including road races, trail races and cross country. The club also has a thriving track and field element. So if you've ever fancied trying a bit of long jump or javelin, you can! Find out about our club or go straight to the membership page.
