Club Championships

The Club Championships is an internal club competition that takes place over a calendar year.

Championship race list

What it's all about

The Club Champs generates some friendly competition between our members. The aim is to get as many 'championship' points as you can during the year. You do this by taking part in races on the club champs list. Most of the races are local, so you'll get massive support from your club mates.

The list includes a variety of road races, trail runs and track events. With distances from 5K to 20 miles. You could even run a marathon that counts towards your score.

How you score points

There are about 12 races in each half of the year. You can run as many as you wish. Only your five highest-scoring races in each half will count towards your final score.

Each championship race has 30 points on offer.

  • The first AAC man and woman get 30 points each.
  • The remaining points are allocated until the last AAC runner finishes.
  • Every member who completes the race will get at least 1 point.

Anyone can win

You don't have to be the fastest runner to win a prize. Competing in lots of races gives you the best chance.
With some of the tougher races, there may only be a few AAC members taking part. You can get 30 points just for finishing!

To win the champs, you must run:

  • a minimum of six races in the year
  • at least one in each half of the year.
Sign up to races as soon as you can; popular events sell out fast.

The rules

On race day you must be a paid-up member and wear a club vest or t-shirt. Except for parkruns, track events, marathons and the Pud Run.

Your age on 1 January determines your age group for the whole year.

The results will be updated periodically during the year.

Suggest a race

Our Championship Co-ordinator, Mark Lewy is always open to suggestions for possible races to include the following year. He tries to include the smaller races organised by our fellow Oxfordshire clubs as without our support, they won’t happen. The cross country and Mota-vation races are in the calendar to encourage runners to take part in the whole series.

Please use the contact form on the right of the page if you want to make any suggestions or have questions about the Club Championships.

Oxfordshire Grand Prix Series

Oxfordshire Grand Prix races (except the Abingdon Marathon) have been included as an incentive for club members to take part.

The Oxfordshire Grand Prix Series started in 2002 and is organised by the Oxfordshire Athletics. In the competition, most Oxfordshire Clubs compete against each other in a series of 14 road races over various distances.

In the team competition, the first four runners for each club score and the teams are then awarded points according to their position on a sliding scale (first 25 points, second 22 points, third 20 points, fourth 19 points, fifth 18 points and so on). The best 12 results from the 14 races in the series count towards the teams' overall score.

In the individual competition, finishers are awarded a point for every other Oxon club runner that they beat. All 14 races in the series count towards the overall individuals score so the more races completed the more points you will score.
