Club history

How Abingdon Athletics Club came to be.

Abingdon Amblers is a diverse and friendly athletics club formed when a group of running friends got together in 1982.

After many years competing in the Southern League, in 2010 our men's and women's track and field teams now compete in the Midland League, going to places such as Nottingham and Bridgenorth and Leicester. In 2010 the club in their first season, achieved promotion having won Division 7! For the current season the club occupies Division 5.

Our young athletes section was established in 1995. They compete in track and field, cross-country and Sports Hall. The club has gone from strength to strength, winning county league championships, and several of our young athletes have achieved national grades. As they get older many young athletes move up to the senior leagues.

Name change

The club changed its name from Abingdon Amblers to Abingdon Athletics Club. It was felt that the new name better reflected the wide range of activities the club offers. We are however still the same friendly club, so nothing has changed there!
