Community Open Day - in support of Midlands Air Ambulance - a tremendous success!
The 5th Annual Wychbury Road Allotments Community Open Day was held on Saturday, 2nd July, 2016 in support of the Midlands Air Ambulance helping to celebrate the 25th anniversary of providing emergency assistance to the region.
The annual event held at the allotment site in Bartley Green has grown in popularity every year and this year was bigger and better, with more free, family fun activities and entertainment that was enjoyed by all of the visitors.
Popular attractions included the BBQ and refreshments, home grown plants stall, St Mary's Hospice charity stall, grand raffle drawer, Live music from the On The Edge Youth Orchestra and a spectacular performance by the Seventh Day Adventists Pathfinders marching band. There was also the opportunity for visiting children to get up close and learn more about bees with the Birmingham Bee Keepers putting on a fascinating display.
The site was decorated with artistic contributions from local school children of all ages from around the area who took part in the Air Ambulance themed colouring competition featuring the popular mascot. A record number of 150 entries were received and five talented winners were chosen by local Councillor Bruce Lines.
Children were also able to meet for a selfie with the Mascot Maac who also helped to oversee the raffle and issue the 25 prizes.
The total amount raised from the event in aid of the Midlands Air Ambulance was £1622.56, a fantastic result for a very worthy charity. This builds on the success of previous events staged by the Wychbury Allotments who have now raised a total of over £7,700 for different charities.
