National Lottery Grant for new facilities at Wychbury Road Allotments
Wychbury Road Allotment Association has received a grant of £9,470 from the Big Lottery fund to help fund some new facilities including a compostable toilet, secure storage facility and a car parking area.
The Big Lottery Fund grant will help transform the site that has been revitalised in recent years, from only a handful of tenants to a thriving community all growing fresh fruit and vegetables and enjoying the great outdoors.
It has been a busy year for the association which was formed just over 12 months ago, with the aim of improving the site facilities and promoting healthy gardening for all the plot holders. A successful open day was held during the Jubilee bank holiday and raised over £1,000 to help fund further site improvements and essential maintenance.
The plot holders will now join forces again to get the new Lottery funded facilities installed with a view to opening them at the 2nd annual open day in June.
Having some basic facilities on site will really enhance the allotment experience for the Wychbury Road Allotment plot holders and will also help the Bournville Scout group who have taken a plot to learn about the value of growing.
There are still plots available if you want to give allotment gardening a try and benefit from growing your own fresh vegetables and some healthy exercise in the outdoor gym.
