RIVER CELEBRATION DAY

Celebrate our fabulous river, meet neighbours and have fun!

Since 1977, our local River Celebration Day has been an opportunity for neighbours and their families to get together and enjoy the river. All local residents interested in our wonderful river are welcome.

 

10.30am: meet for COFFEE at Willow Cottage, 9 Talbot Road, TW7 7HG followed by River Clearing + Escorted History Walk along the upper reaches of the Tidal Crane, history of Talbot Road and Railshead bridges with its medieval pilings and pop skiffle band performing in the river! (ends approx 12.30pm). Older children (7+) welcome but must be accompanied by parents at all times. Waders and rubbish collection equipment will be provided by Thames 21 www.thames21.org.ukyou need belt or belt loops on trousers to attach waders. Clothing: old trousers, socks and old trainers in case no waders fit, long sleeved top, warm top or sun hat/water depending on weather. If rainy, come anyway for a chat, coffee, nuggets of history, and information! DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS THERE WILL BE A MAXIMUM NUMBER 30 PERSONS. You will need to sign in on arrival with your name and phone number. Access via side gate.

During the River Clearing there will be RIVER DIPPING for younger children (weather permitted). A chance to fish in the Crane and find out more about the creatures that live in it. Wear wellies and do bring a fishing net if you have one. Children must be accompanied by parents. Please come along to Willow Cottage coffee for safety briefing and venue information. MAXIMUM NUMBER 30 DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS. You will need to sign in on arrival with your name and phone number.

 

4pm: River boating at high tide for all boat owners.

 

8pm: BARBECUE! (venue announced on the morning). Numbers limited. Due to covid restrictions this will be a free ticketed event and you can register and obtain a ticket by clicking on the link below https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/river-celebration-bbq-tickets-157828747031.
If you are unable to attend on the night please cancel your ticket so others can attend.

NO CHILDREN - 16+ or babies in arms only. Please bring something to cook on the fiery coals, and a salad or dessert and a bottle to share, your own plate, cutlery, glass and remove them afterwards. It helps us if you can leave plastic packaging home if at all possible. If people are unwell, stay at home. Hand sanitizer provided. Entry and exit venue via side entrance. Stay outside unless using loo. Please sign in on arrival with name and phone number.

The Tidal Crane Association will have a collection at the coffee/tea/BBQ to cover printing costs. Please bring some cash along on the day. Information about invasive species will also available on the day.
