When the French twinners visit Devon, we need to make sure we have enough funds to look after them.
Our group is active throughout the year raising funds at public and private events. All our members contribute generously to these initiatives, giving up their time and showing financial support.
Here are some examples of ways in which we raise funds:
Events around the town:
Every year we take part in the Buckfastleigh Fun Day, the Lamb Pie Day and the Scoriton Flower Shower. At our gazebo we sell French style snacks and run a French game for passers-by to take part in. As well as replenishing our funds, it is a great way for locals to find out more about the Twinning.
Pub Quizzes
Every year we run a themed autumn pub quiz in conjunction with Kings Arms Pub in Buckfastleigh. Last year it was “Vin et Fromage”. It is always well attended and great fun. We also invite members of neighbouring twinning associations to join us and swop ideas.
Tables d’hôte
These evenings are for small groups to get together at a member’s house and share a meal. The guests make a donation for the meal, while the hosts cover the costs of the ingredients (the guests are expected to bring their own beverages). A great way to introduce new people to the twinning, while having an enjoyable meal together.
