Grant Funding
Although Wakefield Council now confines its gardening provision to "sustainable planting" and no longer provides flowers, the Council does make grant funding available to community groups and Pontefract in Bloom takes full advantage of these funding opportunities. Pontefract's councillors have provided strong encouragement for our efforts by supporting our grant applications to the Council.
Neighbourhood Improvement Fund: the Council's 21 wards are allocated funding to provide up to £1000 annually to community groups towards achieving the district's priorities.
Local Capital Fund: the Council has given funds to each electoral ward for capital projects, the funding allocation decided by the councillors in each ward. Since 2016 Pontefract in Bloom has received funding to purchase 16 tiered planters, 8 base planters, and two Platinum Jubilee planters.
Community Development Fund: a grant of up to £500 each financial year to voluntary, recreational and community groups to support their development or activities by tackling inequality. Pontefract in Bloom received one CDF grant - £500 for summer community planting in 2019.
Wakefield District Housing: WDH has donated £1000 each year to Pontefract in Bloom for several years.
Tesco "Bags of Help" Fund: this fund utilises the takings from the plastic bag charge imposed by the government. Tesco offers grants to community groups and Pontefract in Bloom was successful in obtaining a grant of £1166 in 2020.
