Damsons

Look out for two Damson trees on the Field, near the fence on the north side.

These are Westmorland Damsons grown from suckers from the Lyth Valley, supplied by the Westmorland Damson Association.

Look out for the snow white blossom in April or May. The succulent damsons can be picked towards the end of September. When ripe they are delicious eaten straight from the trees, or used to make damson jam, damson jelly, damson crumbles, damsom ice cream and especially damson gin . . .
