Scarecrow Competition (2020) - new rules and registration...
For the first time as part of Galleywood Festival 2019 we held a very successful Scarecrow Competition inviting Galleywood folk to make a scarecrow and display it at the front of their property for others to enjoy. This year the competition has changed a little incorporating the feedback you gave us last year and the new Government social distancng rules.
Older members of the community may remember making scarecrows as children with parents who used them in vegetable patches; or seeing them in farmers’ fields. Scarecrows have been used for thousands of years, worldwide.
Making a scarecrow is relatively easy and affordable. It is something that families can take part in safely and without a large budget. The appearance of scarecrows in front gardens but not in public spaces (Due to the restrictions) should create an element of surprise; a talking point (with social distancing); and an opportunity to display street-craft for all to enjoy online or during their daily exercise in festival week.
What do you need to do this year?
